When selecting Photoshop as a software package, make sure the version is CS5 or later. Photoshop CS6 is not a standalone program but a program that comes with other software products, such as Adobe Bridge and Creative Suite. The CS5 or later version is also associated with the programs Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Bridge, which have separate user interfaces. The various Photoshop and Bridge programs can be purchased separately or as a single package.

Photoshop CS5 can be purchased from the Adobe website (

JPEG images have become the standard format for many digital camera users because JPEGs use a comparatively small file size with reasonable resolution. However, there are disadvantages to using JPEGs, including fuzziness in the image, a noisy background, and limited color.

To correct some of the limitations in a JPEG, download the free JPEG-Fixer program from The program is actually an open source JPEG image-processing application based on the widely used free Windows utility IrfanView. (See Chapter 13 for more info on IrfanView.)

As for JPEGs’ limitations, colors lose more of their color value than with other formats. However, if your camera is set to shoot in RAW format and JPEG, you can convert the RAW images to JPEG to get more color.

Many home users don’t have the funds to purchase the fastest and highest-capacity internal hard drive. Therefore, they can significantly increase their storage capacity by saving files on external media such as a USB flash drive.

Choosing an Image-Editing Program

Photoshop CS5 includes numerous features that enable you to modify images to suit your needs. You can take the following steps to select the best image-editing program for your needs:

Click the Photoshop tab in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 window to display the list of tools on the left side of the program (see Figure 5-1).

Select a specific tool by clicking its name, and then click a toolbox on the left side of the program to see icons representing that tool. You can also click the toolbox to open the toolbox with icons of all the tools (see Figure 5-2).

Learn how to create a new document in Photoshop Elements

When you launch Photoshop Elements for the first time, you may get a prompt asking you to sign in. You can sign in with your Adobe ID, which is created when you purchase a Photoshop product. When you sign in, Photoshop opens the Adobe Photoshop Elements page, which contains a Welcome panel that gives you a one-click way to get to your account home screen, where you can access your settings and preferences. You also get a new Create Document panel where you can upload files and create documents.

If you don’t have an Adobe ID, you can create a free one. You can also sign in with a single sign-on (SSO) ID, which is a temporary, guest ID that you can use to access various Adobe online services.

If you created a document in the past, you can use the Open command to reopen it. If your document was saved locally, you will see the Open dialog box as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1: Choosing an existing document to open

When you open a previously saved document, you will have the option to load it from the local disk, pull it from your online account, or create a new document. If you choose to load the saved document, you will be prompted to locate it. You may need to copy the location of the document using the right mouse button and copy to a new window for the location to be displayed, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Loading a previously saved document

If you select a document from your online account, you will see a Download from online link in the confirmation. To download from a local disk, you will need to right-click on the saved document and select Open.

When you click OK, the document will open in Photoshop Elements. You can also choose to open the document directly using the Open command.

You can also create a new document in Photoshop Elements by using the Open command and selecting the New Document command, as shown in Figure 4.

What’s New In Adobe Photoshop CC 2018?

Custom Event with jQuery for Elem.on().add() in IE7

I’m new to jQuery, so please go easy on me.
I’m using an AJAX plugin that fires off an event when the user submits a form. What I want to do is get the value of the event off to another form for processing.
Here’s the form:

The plugin looks like this:
onSubmit: function(data) {
//run some stuff

$(‘#submitme’).click( function() {

And my event is defined like this:
$(‘#form-name’).on(‘event’,’submit’, function(event) {

Works great in FF, but in IE7 I don’t get an alert. In fact, the event never gets fired at all. I think it has to do with the fact that the event has already been triggered once in the plugin’s onSubmit method and I’m not getting that “add” feature I’m looking for.
Is there any workaround for this?

Interesting post!
The problem you describe is an issue in jQuery 1.7.1 (a similar problem in 1.7.0).
You could try my workaround to this problem:
Hope this helps!

I’ve been debugging all day long, looking for a solution. Finally came up with a workaround that works for me.
While it’s not what I originally wanted (build in IE support), it does run IE7.
In the form I used, I added a hidden field that gets populated by the ajaxForm plugin when the form loads.
Here’s the new form:
