Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AutoCAD is also marketed as a graphic design application for graphic artists, and has additional features for designing mechanical parts and supporting non-CAD-related applications such as printing, drawing, and website creation. In AutoCAD, users can edit and create a variety of geometric shapes and create architectural designs by using 2D and 3D views, 2D drawing tools, and some 3D features. In particular, the fundamental feature of AutoCAD is its ability to combine the best aspects of a 2D drafting tool with a 3D modeling tool.
Over the last three decades, Autodesk has released many major versions of AutoCAD with new features, improvements, and enhancements. After the release of AutoCAD 2013, a major new release since the beginning of the CAD industry, Autodesk focused on the acquisition of competing CAD-related software companies, such as Civil 3D and Revit. Autodesk subsequently integrated their former competitors into AutoCAD as products under its umbrella of brands, such as AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP.
The first version of AutoCAD, developed by Mike Overton, was released in December 1982 as a desktop app running on 8-inch floppy disks (for the Apple II, Tandy TRS-80, and IBM PC compatible computers). Later, a version for the Apple Macintosh was released. AutoCAD is available in English, Japanese, Portuguese, and German. Since its release, AutoCAD has been continuously updated, with many major updates released every three to five years. The current version of AutoCAD is AutoCAD 2017, released on March 14, 2017.
AutoCAD 2017 Changes
Released on March 14, 2017, AutoCAD 2017 consists of the following major changes:
AutoCAD 2017 is available as cloud-based software and is now easier to access on any device. This feature allows users to customize their interface and switch to a new device.
AutoCAD 2017 includes the capability to import and export DWG and DGN files to/from other third-party CAD software applications. This feature improves file compatibility and data access for CAD users.
The construction of 3D geometry is included in AutoCAD 2017. When you select a 3D drawing, AutoCAD 2017 displays the constructable model dialog.

AutoCAD also has a Python API, which is the basis for many add-on products.
The AutoCAD 2013 products are generally seen as an advance on previous versions. A complaint about the previous version (2005) was its lack of compatibility with previous versions. (This was partly an issue due to the use of the FlexDraw 2D platform, which in turn was influenced by a significant redesign and refactoring of the core AutoCAD 2005 code.) The latest version is indeed in some ways the “true” successor to AutoCAD 2003, with the advantage that it supports much more diverse graphics hardware and operating systems, including 64-bit Microsoft Windows.
Another issue for AutoCAD 2009 users is the absence of a scripting language that is compatible with previous versions of AutoCAD.
It can be difficult to use AutoCAD as a CAD system for industrial design due to issues with rendering freeform models or for 3D, such as the lack of support for more precise 3D modeling. In addition, it is sometimes difficult to have 2D and 3D versions of drawings for a single model.
There are also many free CAD applications that work very well on a variety of platforms.
Importing and exporting drawings
AutoCAD has been available in various versions for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, and in various configurations for Linux since 1996. The import and export of drawings to and from AutoCAD is now achieved in the most recent AutoCAD versions (2013) by way of the DXF file format, a standard electronic file format developed by Microsoft for transferring drawings between programs. Many other CAD programs also use the DXF file format. AutoCAD is able to open and export to DXF in all AutoCAD versions since AutoCAD 2007. AutoCAD is also capable of viewing, editing and saving DXF documents. There is also a free program named Export DXF Viewer that is capable of reading and viewing DXF files.
The ability to edit and export DXF files was previously limited to AutoCAD versions up to and including AutoCAD 2004, and AutoCAD users were required to either use this free program, or purchase a third-party add-on product. The DXF file format was created by a committee of vendors and standards makers. The format is specifically suited for representing the complete scope of 2D drawing information as well as the 2D and 3D geometry in a structure, including annotations and

Autocad 2015: Text Construction
By: Paul Thompson
Autocad 2015 Autocad 2015 Text Construction is a simple text-based tool for adding, deleting, and adjusting text.
It works in much the same way as the Autocad Object-oriented text functionality but is much easier to use.
It is important to be able to create and use text as this is the most common type of text in Autocad.
The text can be created and manipulated as you would any other autocad object.
In this tutorial I will cover how to:
– create text
– delete text
– move text
– rotate text
– resize text
– mirror text
– change text style
– set characters and paragraphs
– create fields in text
– format text
The text is created on a new, blank sheet. If this is not the case, the text will be created on the existing sheet.
NOTE: The sheet containing the text can be made a permanent page, usually by right clicking on the page and selecting Make Permanent.
The Text Creation
As we have already seen in the previous tutorials, the Text Creation tool has the same structure and components as other autocad tools and has the same menu.
Text Creation > Text > Text Creation
The Text Creation window
The window used to create text in Autocad 2015 is as follows.
