As most of you already know, I just got my new RICOH THUNDER TF 61S-A scanner on the morning of January 7th, just 2 days before my birthday. It was a major surprise. After some testing and adjustments, it’s now in working condition.
The previous one was basically broken, and I was really a bit sad about it. This scanner is a bit different though, it doesn’t have a direct entry line, like the old one. Instead, you first have to use the ‘Download options’ to download and install the firmware for it. I had a few troubles, but after a few tries and some googling, it seems like it’s working. At least I’ve managed to get it to work so it can show some images in the display, and have it running through 2 pages a minute!
The first thing I decided was to turn this scanner into a “home-brew” scanner and decided to give it a new name: “IMAGING MUNK”.
After getting that running, I had a look around, found some information about it here, here and here, and basically did a little reading about RICOH scanners and how I could modify it.
With a little help from forum members and people over at RICOH’s homepage, I managed to do most of it by myself. The only problem left is actually physically installing the SSD and make it appear as a drive. I am currently looking for the right solution, so I’ll be able to have the solution for that soon!
